The Calgary Zoo: Top Tourist Destination

The Calgary Zoo is a great source of entertainment for all ages. It gives an opportunity to the visitors to discover famous events such as the Penguin Walk and Safari Brunch.

“Join us for the Penguin Walk every morning outside Penguin Plunge, and this is a great chance for the travellers to have a close look at the activities of penguins,” said Kim Robertson, a volunteer at the zoo.

“Really enjoy the Penguin Walk, but I advise you to come at least one hour early to find the best spot for viewing a penguin walk,” said Barinder Singh, a zoo visitor.

The Calgary Zoo is a 92 acres zoo located in Bridgeland, Calgary, and it is the second largest zoo in Canada. The zoo is famous for its Prehistoric Park and Dorothy Harvie Gardens.

Dorothy Harvie Gardens gives an opportunity to the visitors to experience the outstanding view of indoor gardens,” said Sabrina, a zoo assistant.

“The Calgary Zoo has a great variety of animals such as penguins, gorillas, lions, flamingos and giraffes, and it is one of the best places to visit in Calgary,” said Paramjit Kaur, a zoo visitor.

The Calgary Zoo offers different activities to the visitors such as Gorilla Family Dynamics, Animal Snackers, and Nature Hackers.

Every day at 1:30 p.m. zoo keepers lead an Animal Snackers program, which gives an opportunity to the visitors to learn about the history of different animals.

“The Calgary Zoo is a great place to visit and also great areas for children to play such as Kinsmen Zooventure Playground,” said Kaur.

A particularly exciting activity is to take a short trip to Destination Africa. In this exhibit, you can see African animals such as lemurs, hippopotamus and meerkats. 

Food and Shopping

The Calgary Zoo offers many food options to their guests. There are two cafes inside the zoo.

The Kitamba Café is open seven days a week, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Kitamba Café serves soups, hamburgers, and hot dogs.

The Penguin Café is attached to the gift shop and also open seven days a week. The café serves coffee and ice cream.

Grazers Restaurant is a famous restaurant in the Calgary Zoo, but it is a seasonal restaurant. It is known for its delicious cocktails.

Don’t forget to visit a Gift Shop & Café in the Calgary Zoo. It offers toys, books, and games. Gift shop also has a wide selection of giraffes and pandas theme souvenirs.

“Great staff and also the best place in the zoo to buy gifts at a reasonable price,” said Kaur.

“The whole area in the zoo is very clean, and also the staff is friendly,” said Singh.

“I will never forget my experience at the Calgary Zoo, and I advise every traveller to visit this zoo to have a wonderful experience.”

Top tips from a zoo volunteer

To make your trip perfect, here are some tips for visiting the Calgary Zoo by Robertson.

First, always check the times of the daily programs such as the Penguin Walk. Second, it is better to come early in the morning when it is not crowded.
